研究テーマ

わたしの興味は、環境微生物の検出や現存量の評価、及びその“場”を構成する微生物群の種組成の解析です。特に海洋では、顕微鏡的に視認される微生物のほとんどが寒天培地を用いた従来法では分離されないことから、顕微鏡・フローサイトメーターによる細胞レベルでの検出システムと、培養を介在しない遺伝子を用いた分類同定法が必要とされます。遺伝子や光学装置を駆使した分析手法は、実験室内での管理された微生物試料、例えば純粋培養菌株の分析には非常に明瞭な結果を与えます。これらの手法を海水サンプル、海底堆積物などの環境試料に適用して、複雑な群集組成を解析したり、現存量を推定したりすることが、現在の研究の中心課題です。
